PLAY MISTY FOR ME
When a someone enters the museum room an unexpected noise is perceived. At first the sound’s source and cause cannot be discerned. After a while the visitor will realise that they themselves are producing the sound – as they walk through the space the old wooden floor transfers the sound of their footsteps over to the skull-filled glass showcase. The back glass vibrates and the microphone transmits this sound into the active speaker which amplifies it and makes it “visible” to the visitor.
The starting point for the project Narratives in Progress was a reflection on the museum as an institution, and the underlying structures within which knowledge is generated and transmitted. It also concerns the notion of history and the way in which it can be interpreted, re-read, or extended from the world of art. – Juan de Nieves
